Sébastien Tixier's statement
In Chinese culture and since antiquity, the observation of nature has been elevated to the rank of art. The traditional painting “Shan Shui”, literally translated as “Mountain – Water”, perpetuates the tribute to streams and mountains.
The regions between Lanzhou and Shizuishan in China, where industrialization and urbanization are booming, are at the heart of government issues. Irrigated by the Yellow River alone and in steep regions, they concentrate the challenges that arise. It is on this section that the main pollutions of this river took place, though known in ancient times as the “Mother River”. It is also in these areas that the Chinese government has undertaken the flattening of many mountains to facilitate urban and economic development.
