Naohiro Maeda's statement
My work is an exploration of the mourning process. The empty spaces I depict are my fantasies of comfort and solace. These are not real places but constructed places.
Two years ago my close friend passed away and I moved to the United States. These two strong experiences happened sequentially and created a disconnection I have never felt before.
The weather and time of day in my work reflect my transition from sadness to calmness to lightness.
