Tom Westbury's statement
I’m obsessed by documenting the banal and the ordinary: unplaces, edgelands, peripheral spaces and accidental arrangements. Photography has an uncanny ability to render these unseen places somehow fascinating, both from a purely formal point of view, and because they reveal cultural artefacts which are often hidden from more carefully constructed and manufactured ‘scenes’.
Commonplace is the name I’ve given to this ongoing project. The images in this selection are from an early 2019 trip to Blackpool, a sea-side resort town in the North West of England.
